Since Aiden's ear snot invasion last month, he has not worn his hearing aids for more than 20 seconds. The left hearing aid was driving the child absolutely bonkers.
Last week, he had a follow up appointment with Dr. ENT in which the audiologist there said that the left tube (which is new) was already blocked just weeks after insertion. Dr. ENT said absolutely not and that it was indeed wide open and clear. We decided there that we would continue to use the audiologist where Aiden got his hearing aids. He likes Meredith, he knows her and will cooperate with her. Dr. ENT was fine with that.
Today, I took Aiden to his hearing aid test and adjustment. This process takes over an hour to complete. She stuck little foamy things in Aiden's ears and he had to respond to the sounds, which he did rather accurately. She wanted to do what is called a "masked bone test" where air is pushed through one of Aiden's ears and sound is pushed through the other. Aiden didn't quite think this test was necessary and therefore did not allow the test to be done. Then we went into another room where she adjusted his hearing aids.
Whatever she did to the hearing aids worked as the child wore them for about 15 minutes while she was doing a feedback test. He'll go back in 3 months for an "aided test" which is a hearing test with his aids in and new molds.
