Friday Morning Update.....

Posted Sep 01 2008 7:10pm
So I think I am almost recovered from yesterday. Holy smokes that was a Looooong day. I felt so bad that Rhett didn't get to eat. The PICU is hopping. Lot's of traumas. Hopefully we will be out of there today. It's really hard being in there.

We had a few more apnea episodes, but there is a reason for it. They gave him Adavan. For some reason Rhett and that drug DO NOT get along. It has caused all sorts of problems with him. They gave it to him before Andy and I got back to the PICU so I wasn't able to stop them.

Once they got it out of his system and put him on a Precedex drip all was well. He has been getting Morphine and Benadryl as well, so he had a pretty restful night. The hardest part is keeping him down.

They wanted him on his stomach for 24 hrs, and then on his back for another 24 hrs.......Ha!! That isn't happening. So they are settling for him just flat on his back. It was good though because I got to snuggle with him and sleep with him last night. He is much more cooperative if mommy is in bed with him!! He kept smacking me in the face making sure I was still there. Gotta love that kid.

So he had an Echo done in the OR while he was under. Dr. Day (his cardiologist) stopped in to talk with us after we were all settled. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Rhett's pulmonary pressures continue to go down, and the thickness of his right side of his heart continues to shrink as well. His pressures have gone down with each Echo since March, from 98 to 67 to 35 and now to.......27!!!! And the right side of his heart measured only 3 milimiters in thickness. All of this is absouloutley normal. Just like you or I.

When I asked him where we go from here, he says just to continue giving him his blood pressure meds, and to continue the oxygen at night. He says one day we might get brave and try to wean him. Then he paused and looked at me and said, "Maybe in 20 years..." Hee Hee Hee!!

Rhett yelled at him right then, like that is SO not funny.

So all of the surgeries and complications that we have been through since March have all paid off. They have done exactly what they wanted them to do, and things are looking up. We are so blessed.

Well I better get back to my boy. He is probably awake and giving the nurses a run for their money!! :)

Thank you so much for all of the prayers. They really do work, and MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!!
