So, if you could come over to my house: I’d feed you a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs and we’d dream of the giant heirloom tomatoes that will become next spring’s sauce; we’d talk about sustainable agriculture and local food sources; we’d sing, “All I really need is a song in my heart/Food in my belly/And love in my family” and then we’d go pet the dogs, which to my way of thinking, is a fine way of spending a Wednesday afternoon.
This month is: volunteering at the animal shelter, starting heirloom tomatoes in old yogurt cups, reading the Chez Panisse Cafe Cookbook , making these meatballs from Ina Garten (the cheese makes them very tender), and listening to Raffi’s Baby Beluga.
