A Rare Sighting

Posted Apr 01 2010 12:00am

I've been working on another post for weeks. I just can't write what I want to say. It's difficult stuff and I keep getting interrupted and my mind keeps changing on how I feel about the topic and, frankly, whether or not I even want to share some of the struggles we've been dealing with.

Yet, anyway.

We're still trying to get a handle on some of it ourselves.

I don't know. I am struggling with who I am writing all this for as it is. Either way. Talking about it while not talking about it is boring. And annoying no doubt.

Instead I will tell you about how Rainer and I went to CT for a visit and how he did wonderfully in the car and how we didn't stop either going to or coming from (4.5 hours each way), but that we had to leave a day early because Rainer got sick. It was a lousy trip and my family who has seen him less than a handful of times got to see him cranky and upset because he was feverish and unfamiliar with his surroundings. Out of sorts entirely. As a result he didn't want me out of his sight, slept terribly, and cried every time I was out of his sight for even a second.I already have issues sleeping and using bathrooms in places other than my own home!!!

That trip pretty much proved to me what we already know...traveling with kids is for the birds! I wanted to make another trip up north this summer, but after that trip, staying home is sounding better and better--and this coming from a person who has been stuck in the house for more hours (days, weeks) than I care to count lately!

It's a rare +90 degrees down here and Georgia's school was closed today because of a water main break. She had srping break last week, was sick for three days before spring break (and through spring break) and last night Rainer, who seemed to be bouncing back went from happy and playing to an alarmingly high fever (about 104) and unable to walk in less than fifteen minutes. It was scary and I am not used to him being sick, but he is doing a lot better this morning. He is sitting next to me eating a peach. He loves peaches. Asks for them by sign and name.

Georgia, Little Miss Irritable lately, delighted us with a few rare smiles and entertained us with silly antics the other evening. I took the camera out for the first time in ages to capture what has become a rare occurrence in our house. I will post them here because I am obviously plum out of other ideas.

And here's Rainer, who is usually fairly good-natured (although my family would probably beg to differ, and although the kid can whine, yo.)

Ridestroller

We had this stroller in the kitchen and he thought it was a car to ride on. Like this one below, which he has come to love.

Hey, you! Get into my car! Who me? Yes, you!

Wannaride

Need a ride?

Not feelin' so good.

Sickthree

Oh yeah, I was sick for a solid two weeks, too! Fun! Sick snuggles buns!

Vibe2

Oh! Here's something good. Last year Alex and I put three viburnum in the ground. They hadn't flowered yet and they were rather...stick-y, but look what is blooming! It's like magic and they smell SO good. We're working on a lot of yard stuff lately, but the flowers sure are making it feel worthwhile. Our tulips seem to have multiplied this year as well.

Here's one.

Here's another one.

I feel more inspired by the kids' gardening books than the more designerly ones. They sure make it all seem more fun and easy. Got a bunch out from the library the other day. So many projects, so little time (and money!!)

So it goes.

And this concludes another broadcast from Tricia's World of Mundanity.
