will a low to non fat diet help malabsorption caused by steatorrhea?

My husband has had fatty stools for months now. Dr. is looking for cause, gallbladder is suspected but not confirmed yet. Will following a low to non fat diet help ease his gastro distress until cause and treatment are found and started?
