Why do I have chronic left side pain below the rib cage at the waist. If I lye down and turn the side it hurts a bit more.

I am overweight with high cholesterol. About ten years ago I was told I had some cholesterol in gallbladder. I also have reflux and irrtable bowels. I always seems to grab my side due the dull pain. At times it is more intense.Dr doesn't think serious. What  causes it?
