Shop, shop and shop some more

Posted Jul 25 2011 4:54pm
My most recent adventure has been moving house and as such, my local supermarket has changed. I went in to have a good mooch around this evening and realised I could not find many of my favourite healthy alternatives. This is the hardest part of sticking to a healthy diet in the UK in my opinion – where do you go where you can actually browse and shop like everyone else? It seems we have to hop, skip and jump between different supermarkets just to find the basics. So far Waitrose and Tesco have come up the best, with Morrisons and Asda severely lacking. However I still can’t buy things like my Kara coconut milk there – yet if you go to Holland and Barratt or suchlike, you can only buy a very limited selection of foods.

Who else in the UK has this experience and what can you recommend? I’m talking gluten free, dairy free, sugar free foods – any and all combinations! To contextualise, I live in Reading btw, a large town with the largest train station in the South of the UK outside of London – not exactly in the sticks!

Hit me with your ideas…
