Sadly, I must report the death of a second robin of ours. The first vanished after a crow attack, presumably grabbed by a crow. This one bit the dust after they left the nest; while having a fire on Sunday, Kyle noticed a neighborhood stray cat batting it around on the ground. Rob ran and chased off the cat, and brought the stunned bird back to our yard.
He never really stood up, and just squatted like this forever.
Unfortunately, I think the poor thing was injured, as he wasn’t really looking so good, and wasn’t able to move around much.
Not even a big, long earthworm revived the little guy.
After many attempts to rouse him, we decided to put him on the ground close to his mom, who was watching us closely. The chick hopped into the grass behind a car for more cover, and the mom tried to feed him some worms. Unfortunately… the lady who owned the car left, and backed over the baby robin. So… he’s gone now, and much flatter than he was before. Poor little guy…
