I know its been some time since I've posted anything so I wanted to provide an update. Things have been going rather well the past week or so. Towards the end of August and early September I had gone back to the antibiotics. I tolerated Cipro but it wasn't as potent as before. I hate flagyl and asked my GI for some other antibiotic because of how crummy the flagyl made me feel. I then tried Xifaxan for the first time, which worked fine. The only problem is that there wasn't a generic available and it cost an arm and a leg. Fifty dollars to be exact. Things are relative smooth now. Shortly after I met with my GI, who is really trying to help me get my bathroom breaks down to 4 or 5 a day. I'm not sure how realistic that goal is. I'm fine with 8-12. Its still better than UC and as I've said before I have more control. I spoke with my GI about things I tried to reduce output with the ostomy like nexium. My doctor prescribed dicyclomine to help slow gastric motility. I'm not sure how well its working though as I have not noticed a significant difference.
In addition to j-pouch related issues I've had a few other things going on. Training for the half marathon has not been possible as a single parent during the week. My son had another ear infection recently so that ruled out evening runs. The weekend seems to be the only time I can get a run in. I haven't had much time to do much of anything for that matter. This Friday I'm having elbow surgery, which will keep me from being too active for a while with my arm in a sling. To make matters worse my wife was recently diagnosed with choriocarcinoma or gestational trophoblastic disease, a rare form of cancer. She undergoes her first chemotherapy treatment this Friday. She has been great though and I think I'm more concerned about her than she is. Life is full of zingers.
