Our good friend Amanda Eve was here visiting for a wedding, and we were lucky enough to get to steal her for parts of the day. We first had lunch at Basil’s with her, Gina, Mark, Athena, and Athena’s friend. (Basil’s is your generic mediocre family restaurant, nothing to write home about.) Then, after a reader’s vespers, we went out with a bunch of people to the Vietnamese place down the street from us, Nho Saigon. A slightly blurry picture of everyone- Kyle, Mike, Sonia, Brent, Amanda Eve, Kate, Dianne and Clarence. Kyle and I really like Nho Saigon, as do lots of other people from our parish. This is partially because you can get lenten things here… also, because the food is super good and relatively cheap for what you get, especially in a semi-pricey area like Marda Loop. Kyle' s Pho Tai Kyle ordered one of his favorites, pho tai. This is a noodle soup with thinly cut slices of rare beef that get cooked by the heat of the broth- it’s pretty darn tasty. I must say, I’m impressed that he can use chopsticks; I can’t use them to save my life, and am usually the only one to request a fork. Spring rolls! I ordered spring rolls, which were filled with shredded pork, carrot, and other stuff. They were tasty and I ate them all way too quickly. And now, for your viewing pleasure, some goofy candid pictures: Clarence and his huge strawberry bubble milkshake Me, my moonface, and my photogenic husband. Brent playing with his food. Insert caption explaining this awkward photo here... Amanda Eve shaking her head at us all. Yes, we probably deserved it! I had a great picture of Sonia, but I’ve promised upon pain of death not to post it on the internet. I swear, I have some kind of special skill at taking horrible photos of people… I think it’s because my camera flashes twice, so people move after the first flash, hence all the blurry/blinky photos I get.
