my dog's stool almost seemed like it had a sausage casing around it, he seems fine, what could have caused this?

What exactly are you feeding your dog? How old is your dog? 

Hi my dog just presented with this symptom --  she is approx 1-1/2 years old -- she had hard brown stool last few days -- as if dehydrated I would think though clean water is always readily available.  This afternoon she passed a larger amount of stool, clay-colored stool that appeared to be encased like a sausage as described in post above.

I have 2 other dogs and a cat in the home -- one of the other dogs (9 mos old) has had the hard stools for the past few days.

They are on Nutro Ultra Holistic food. Will keep monitoring, as we pick up as they eliminate.
