Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would achieve the level of success with my j-pouch that I had the past couple of days. My surgeon told me at the very beginning that most j-pouchers have on average between 6 to 8 bowel movements a day. I was o.k. with that too, which is why I opted for the surgery. But five? I had no idea life with a j-pouch could be so good. I felt normal for the first time in years. It took no effort at all to go six hours without a bowel movement.
The only regret I have is that I wasn't able to use it to get some incredible workouts in. I wasn't able to get the workouts in though because my j-pouch was allowing me to work all the overtime I wanted. With a baby on the way any day now the overtime pay takes precedence. I was even able to sleep straight through the night, something I have not been able to do for years and something I understand I will not be able to do for years to come soon. I'll enjoy it while I can.
Today I felt as if I was going fairly frequently only to realize at days end that the bowel movement tally is 8. WOW! What a difference a week makes. I wish every sufferer of UC was told by their gastroenterologist about the j-pouch option. The truth is, I'm living proof you don't have to suffer from Ulcerative Colitis.
