Exact causes remain unknown, but it is likely due to changes in intestinal permeability (we see it in our clinical studies) leading to low-grade inflammation, altered microbial populations - bacteria, yeast, protists, etc, GI motility and sensitivity. Previous GI infections, stress and food sensitivities may play a role, along with genetic susceptibilities.
