I Survived The Day or Be Prepared For Disjointed Babble

Posted Jun 15 2009 6:29pm

Today, as we all know, started off rough. Many, many, things went wrong. Many. Wrong. All over the place. Just wrong.
Never being one to just give up and preferring to run myself to death rather than admitting defeat or doing a calm retreat I just kept going. I do this on the assumption that eventually something will go right. It just has too, right?
Heartened by a good shower I set forth on the rest of the day. I did the mundane things, cleaned the house, sat down until I wasn't dizzy any more, washed the dishes, sat down until I wasn't dizzy any more, remembered the electrician was coming and cleaned out the laundry room which is where we keep the circuit box, lay down until I wasn't dizzy any more, nagged my daughter, nagged the dog, and nagged the rats. The rats ignored me. Not entirely unexpected.
Then I remembered I had promised the girls I would skin their blogs for them. They had already picked their skins from blogskins.com and the general theory behind those blogs is you are just supposed to download the images, make the proper title changes and then save the images to your own server, pour in the prewritten code, make the proper connections and ba da boom! Your blog is skinned.
In theory.
Yeah, right.
Okay, Michelle's blog Toast Box went fairly well. A few bugs and tweaks and there we were. All set. Okay, we did end up with the second choice because the first one was just too screwed up and bizarre for words.
Then we went on to the blog that Michelle is sharing with her boyfriend. Toastbox Says Pojo Says. If I ever get my hands on the person who coded that one, she will get a severe talking too. Very severe. I may use crass words.
There was no comments thingee set up, no archives thingee set up, no latest posts thing set up, no identity item set up, and so on. Oh, and when you made more than one post the earlier posts would go hide under the banner. No idea what that was about. She didn't label a container or something. Anyway... I know, I know, it's free....but geeze. And the coding was all over the damn place! Labels, people! Labels! Really, now! Okay, so after hours and hours, I get it all together, it previews perfectly, I click save and upload and I. Get. A. Blank. Page. Blank. White. Nothing. All. Gone. Kaput! Ooookay then. Back I go. No earthly idea what happened. None. Start over fresh and do step by step exactly as I did before. Except after I upload and make sure it works I save each step so I can go back. Each step repeated one by one. Ever so slowly. Ever so carefully. The EXACT same thing as I did before and when I finished I saved and upload and it worked. What the hell????? Anyway, now it works.
With serious trepidation I go on to work on Katy's blog. Dazed and Delusioned Which is BETA BLOGGER!!!! Anything but that!!!! But, ever the brave one I forded on.
Added the comments code, added the archives, added the latest posts, added the profile thing and everything went perfectly. Not one bump. Not one. I was actually kind of confused. It went right. By the time I was done with that it was time for my night time tidying of the house, and off to bed I went. I figure ending the day on a successful note is a good thing.
Oh, my dining room is working again but apparently my circuit breaker box is an inferno waiting to happen. Why can't they just come and fix things and leave it at that? Why do they always have to leave on an ominous note?
