In Dec. 09 I had a colonoscopy. During the procedure my colon was perforated and I underwent surgery to remove my colon and thus ended up coming out of it with an ileostomy. I am now preparing to have the ileostomy reversed to a J-Pouch.
My surgeon wants to completely remove my rectum as he says that is the way he does it. My gastroentrologist tells me he can strip the mucosal lining from my rectum and I won't have to worry about colitis or cancer and that I can keep my rectum. I have been told there are muscles in the rectum that help with control.
Does anyone have any information or advice regarding these procedures.
