Dried Cranberries

I’ve always been disappointed that Craisins dried cranberries are made with sugar. I never understood why they had to sweeten them. What’s the point of making dried fruit only to cover it with sugar? I doesn’t make any sense. Why turn a healthy product into something not healthy? Sometimes it’s nice to have a tart dried fruit and raisins are always so sweet.

I was in Whole Foods the other day and FINALLY found dried cranberries that are not made with sugar! YAY! Flavor Tree Snack Foods makes dried cranberries that are sweetened with apple juice. Ingredients are: cranberries, apple juice concentrate, sunflower oil, calcium chloride.

Yes, I know, apple juice concentrate is an iffy ingredient, so proceed with caution. However, I can tell you that I’ve been eating these dried cranberries as a snack with nuts and other dried fruits and haven’t been bothered by them at all. They don’t really taste sweet, they’re more of a tart and sour snack. I bet they would be really good in a baked snack like muffins or something similar.
