CT scan reports a grossly dilated tranverse colon followed by a section of collapsed colon - dr recommending surgery - will this

I have been taking medication (Mestinon) for a pseudo obstruction.  Dilated transverse colon has caused an elevated diaphram and shortness of breath that is limiting my ability to do my job and discouraging me from exercise which in turn has resulted in a weight gain which I am sure complicates the issue. 

History:  30 yrs ago had an emergency c-section due to obstruction in sigmoid colon; had a temporary colostomy for 3 months.
