Chinese Chicken Yat Gaw Mein Soup

Chinese Chicken Yat Gaw Mein Soup

I went to visit my parents for Father’s Day and we ended up ordering Chinese take-out for dinner. The vast majority of the dishes on a Chinese take-out menu are not SCD compliant as they come accompanied with rice or noodles and are stir-fried in heavy starch filled sauces. Chinese restaurants all use corn starch to thicken their sauces. Corn starch is not allowed on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.

A good option for SCD dieters is to order a steamed protein like shrimp or chicken with steamed veggies. That way, they don’t put the starch heavy sauces on them. Another option that I like is Chicken Yat Gaw Mein Soup. It is normally served with chicken, vegetables, and noodles in a clear chicken broth, but I often order it without the noodles, just with chicken, vegetables, and broth. It makes a great filling meal and I always feel very good after eating it. Of course, there is always the chance that a non-SCD compliant ingredient is in the chicken broth, but if it is, it is such a small percentage of the entire dish that I’ve never had a problem with it.
