Vitamin D Deficiency Can Raise Blood Sugars

A study, presented earlier this week at the 92nd Annual Meeting of the Endocrine Society, suggests that vitamin D deficiency can have a negative impact on blood sugar control.

A six year study involved 124 patients in which vitamin D levels were determined by the 25-hydroxyvitamin D test. Patients were divided into four groups based on their baseline vitamin D level.

Vitamin D levels were shown to be inversely related to HbA1C levels and suggests patients should be screened for vitamin D deficiency.
