A Continuous Glucose Monitoring Tattoo Is In The Works

Posted Jun 06 2010 5:19am
How would this be as a continuous glucose monitor? It may be an option in the future.

Fluorescent nanoparticle ink tattoos are being developed by a research team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The "tattoo ink" would reflect infrared light back, through the skin, to a monitor that would likely be no larger than a watch. Initial systems are being tested in animal studies. The initial problem encountered, to date, has been some level of rejection of the continuous glucose monitor sensor material.

We haven't heard any updates on the system being developed at Texas A&M that was first reported five years ago . There was also another Massachusetts-based system reported about a year and a half ago .

The full story about the MIT system is here .
