By the time I checked again at 3 a.m. I had dropped to 58. It's always days that I exercise when I have a 3 a.m. low. I wonder if I should I do a temporary reduced basal overnight on those days. Dang, with diabetes there are so many little things to think about. An artificial pancreas would help a lot! Something to look forward to... At 6 a.m. I was 105, so I bolused and ate my pre-made breakfast of overnight Greek yogurt chia oats. The proportion of this breakfast was much more yogurt than oats, which I think helps my level stay good in the morning. This breakfast had peanuts in it too, but you can't see them, since they were mixed in. Yep, the extra protein (and lack of stress?) kept my level good this morning. I drove home to Memphis (just an hour drive) straight from French class, so I had lunch in the car. I made a "tuna salad" and put it on this sandwich thin. I mixed one package of tuna with a spoonful each of lowfat cottage cheese, hummus and mustard then added red pepper and black pepper. So good!! I also had some cashews to round out the meal. I bit the inside of my mouth while I ate my apple and it hurt so bad! You know when you bite your mouth and then you keep biting it in the exact same spot? That's what happened to me. I picked Rose (our corgi) up from the doggie daycare where she stayed while my parents were in Texas this week. She was so happy to come home! I was in a hurry to get to my doctor's appointment, so I dropped her off at home and grabbed a random snack of Barbara's Multigrain Puffins and a few bites of cruncy toasted cinnamon bread bites that my Mom buys from Fresh Market. My sensor showed me at 100. About thirty minutes later, they checked my level at the doctor's office and I was 80. I was glad I'd had that snack. The nurse said "Well, you need to eat something!" I smiled, but ignored her advice, since I knew that I'd had a snack and that my level would probably come up to at least 120, which it did. Other exciting news: my Dexcom sensor shipped today!! But I just realized I have most of a box of Medtronic sensors left, so I guess I should use those up first, since we paid so much for them. I'll ask my Mom. Random picture of my street! After the appointment, I made a quick trip to my third favorite grocery store (besides Whole Foods and Trader Joe's). I knew Whole Foods would be impossible to navigate on a Friday afternoon, so I avoided it. I got a few new, exciting things I thought I'd share. Pictured below: liquid aminos (you can put this on pretty much anything; it has lots of important amino acids) and bulghur wheat, which I've never had before. When I got home I kicked the ball in our backyard with Rose, enjoying the beautiful weather some more. She barks aggressively at the ball (never at the kicker of the ball) until we kick it for her, then she brings it back and barks at it until we kick it again. It takes about thirty minutes of this to wear her out. She's full of energy after being in daycare for three days! I got this action shot of her- she's mid-bark. Well I'm waiting on my parents' flight to get in from Texas a little before 7 p.m. I'm not sure where they'll want to go eat dinner, but I'm hoping for maybe a good salad with fish. I haven't had salmon in awhile... Hope everyone has had a beautiful Friday and has a great night! |

I just got back from my doctor's appointment, which was interesting. Again I was told by the nurse practitioner that I "worry" too much. I'm kind of struggling to understand this, because when I wasn't as into taking care of myself as I am these days, I didn't feel good. Period. Now even though I do have to spend a lot of my time working on myself and diabetes-related things, I feel 1000x better.
She did answer one of my questions and gave me a bottle of Apidra to try instead of the Humalog I've been on. I'll definitely share the results of how it goes. They didn't change any of my rates, even though Apidra will likely cut down on my insulin needs, so I'll go back in a few weeks to see how things are going and adjust accordingly.
Two nurse practitioners were studying my charts in the room with me for a long time trying to figure out exactly what causes my lows. They think I may be too soon to correct after seeing a high number. They changed my "active insulin" time from 2 hours to 3 hours, which I think will help. They also said my overnight basal rates seem to be too high, which I also agree with.
Now on to the minute details of last night and today.
After dinner last night I did Jillian Michael's 6 Week 6 Pack video. It's tough! I don't know if I'll ever move up to Level 2.
Snack number one: apple with cinnamon and almonds
For some reason (maybe the killer video), I was still hungry after my apple and almonds, so I microwaved 1/4 cup oat bran with 1/4 cup soy milk and added dry peanut flour.
