3. Even though Christmas is over, I absolutely love this ornament that my friend from college sent to me! There were shipping problems and it got sent back to her home, but it finally got here. I put it right into my box of ornaments for next year when I do my own tree. I'm so excited about all of my ornaments. 4. Last night was our last night together as a family for possibly quite a long time. My brother and sister left today to go back to Nashville, since they start school on Monday. I leave in two weeks for London and will be there just under four months, so unless they come to Memphis or I go to Nashville in the next two weeks, we'll only be seein' each other over Skype. To say our farewells, my family went to Bangkok Alley , a Thai restaurant near our house. We had never been here before, but I was a big fan. We sat in a cozy booth in the back corner of the restaurant. The waitress was very helpful when I asked her what seafood I could get that wouldn't have any sugar in the sauce or marinade. She was thoughtful in helping me to decide on the Chilean sea bass with green chile sauce. She even checked with the chef and confirmed to me that there was no hidden sugar in the dish. The only thing wrong with the meal was the spiciness of my mom's dish. She told the waitress that her "lips were burning" after the meal. Poor waitress! 5. This may not be classified as "good" to some readers of my blog, but as a diabetic who must constantly wear medical devices on various parts of my body, this tape is amazing! I've been having problems with my pump sites and sensor sites sticking to my skin. My skin is very dry in the winter and when I exercise and get really sweaty, the sites come off really easily. I ordered these for $35 from Amazon and so far, the tape has kept my sensor site intact. The Bad Yesterday I had a 25 carb breakfast (oat bran with almond milk and pumpkin seeds) before going to exercise with my sister at my parent's club. 45 minutes on the elliptical and 15 cooling off on the treadmill had me at 68. I had a low carb lunch consisting of spinach and grilled salmon on top, but for some inexplicable reason, my level was sky high (close to 300) for a lot of the afternoon. Correction insulin wasn't working. After checking my calendar, I determined that my insulin was nearing the 28-day mark. I am careful to throw my Apidra away after 28 days, even though I always have quite a bit left in the bottle. What I haven't been doing and am now committed to doing is keeping my Apidra in the refrigerator even after it's opened. Apparently Apidra is highly temperature sensitive and I haven't been doing enough to make my insulin work as well as it should.I started a new bottle of Apidra yesterday afternoon and my levels have been flat ever since. My high and low today have been 140 and 69, which I consider a success (at least lately). The Funny (and Fun) As I said, we had a typical Memphis Saturday, which includes a trip to the Shelby Farms pet park/dog lake. Even though it was a gray day with a 40% chance of rain, the weather was mild and we stayed dry. Rose made friends (and an enemy, Apple) and had fun as always. Sarah befriended the coolest dog there- Celeste, a 6 year old Burmese Mountain Dog. Her owners are from Canada, which explains a lot, since you almost never see these in Memphis! She weighs 113 pounds. She almost knocked me down once with her sheer body mass! With my sister My sister's cute rainboots (I have these on my Pinterest...) Finally something (mildly) funny. I walked 5 miles this morning before going to the pet park, so once we got back from the pet park, I was 69. My family wanted to go out for Mexican, but I prefer to make my own food a lot of the time. I made myself a big salad and ate it at home, but I still went with everyone else and just sat while they ate. I liked under desserts where it said "Home made, wife's recipe." I'm not sure which dessert this refers to or whose wife it refers to, but I found this humorous. Something else funny... I tried so hard to convince my brother to try on just a tiny bit of my Dior lip gloss since his lips were dry, but he wouldn't. He said he would only use the "kind in the tube." He said my lip gloss looked too much like make up. Smart brother... didn't fall for my tricks. I can't believe it's been a week since New Year's! Last week at this time I was drinking Prosecco and having a great time with all my friends at our party for my two friends who are engaged! 2012 has been good so far... can't wait to see how the rest turns out! There are so many unknowns ahead in this year for me, but I love living that way. For example, my internship in London is a huge unknown. I don't know anyone there, not even my roommates. Then another unknown is how it'll be to come right back to Memphis for another internship with the same firm. Will I be worn out? Will it be too much? How will working in London compare to working in Memphis? Another big unknown is what will I be doing in the fall? Will I be starting my Master's of Taxation or... who knows? Do you have any big unknowns this year? |

1. My J.Crew pajamas came back today with their monogram! I found it a little odd that the monogram was below the pocket instead of on the pocket, but once I looked at the J.Crew site I realized that they always monogram below the pocket of these pajamas.
