Surprising

Posted Feb 08 2012 5:35pm
She also told me today that I win the cutest clothes award. Although I think she majorly exaggerates, I wish I could just put her in my pocket and carry her around with me for life. It's so nice to have someone compliment you all the time!

However after I caused our dishwasher to flood last week, she created a new order in her list of best housewifes in the world.

Now her updated version goes...
"First you ask a Japanese housewife how to do something..." (Japanese housewives are very highly regarded by my roommate as the best in the world)
"Then you ask a Chinese housewife"
"Then you ask an American housewife" (not very good apparently- sorry, Mom)"But do not ask American housewife who speak French!!!" (meaning me)
Thanks to my lack of home-making skills, I have caused my Chinese roommate to think that all Americans who speak French are bound to be complete idiots at household chores. The other interns and I all got a kick out of this.
Training was lots of this...

...which turned into more of this...

Finally yesterday evening training was over. What did we do? Headed to a nearby pub (more of a trendy bar, but pub is more fun to say). Two interns who are now full time arrived last week, so they went with us and we all talked for a long time.

We had to take a cab to training yesterday, because our tube stop had a sign saying that until June (JUNE!?!) that you couldn't take a tube from it until 9:30 am. It was too cold to walk to a different station, so we hopped in a cab. And got stuck.in.traffic. I will never have a car if I live here! We were so close, but so far... Our cab driver accidentally dropped us off at a really nice hotel a few doors down from our conference center. It was so funny- the valet opened the door and helped us all out, then we grabbed our laptops and hauled off for the training. I was laughing so hard! We most definitely were not coming to check into his fancy-schmancy hotel.

We tried to take a cab back to our apartment last night when we were leaving the bar, but we didn't see a lit-up one in sight, so we ran for the tube. Honestly, last night was the coldest I've ever been in my life. Well, my trip to Chicago in January may have been worse, but it's a toss-up. We were considering a weekend trip to Paris this weekend, so I checked the weather- 19 degrees all weekend. Heck no!

This was my roommates and I in the elevator. We hadn't thawed yet. I was close to tears. I sprinted the whole way from the tube to my apartment.

This morning my running buddy and I decided to sleep in. We're meeting at 6:15 tomorrow morning though! She's determined that we run outside, but I'm much more interested in working out at the gym. She said it'll be 30 degrees tomorrow and that we ran a few days ago in 27 degrees. I told her if I had known it was 27, I would've taken off right back up the stairs!

Today I wore my most comfortable black skirt from Banana Republic with a v-neck long-sleeved tee from J.Crew that my madre got me for Christmas. I wore a black J.Crew sweater over it. It was so comfortable!
So the "surprising" thing I was referring to in my title? I've been absolutely astounded at how easy it is to work all day. My biggest worry about this internship was that I wouldn't be able to work the long hours. I was there until almost 8:30 tonight, picked up groceries with another intern on the way home, and ate around 9 pm. I wouldn't have thought I could do that, but it really doesn't bother me at all. I was at work from 8:45 this morning, so I was there almost 12 hours, but I can honestly say that it was a fun day! It really helps that the people are so nice.

We had Tucker's for lunch. It's the least healthy of the nearby options. The other interns all got omelettes in baps (white bread heavily buttered). I just got an omelette with salad. It was good, but it sat heavy in my stomach through the afternoon. I took gym clothes and a snack to work, but when I finished around 8, I just couldn't go to the gym... disappointing, but I'm not going to push myself too hard when it's been a long day.

Can't believe tomorrow's Thursday! I'm having lunch with my "buddy" and also with the person who has to evaluate me periodically throughout my internship.
