is there a test to tell if you have type I or type 2

As stem cell therapies advance, it might be imperative to know the difference.

I have been on the paradigm pump for approximately 10 yrs. I don't remember a C-peptide test being done. I went from being diagnosed with type II and taking pills to about a mo. later starting on insulin. When I started seeing a diabetes doctor, he said that he thought that I had been misdiagnosed and probably was a type I. He did not mention that there was a test. Can I still take the C-peptide test if I am using insulin. My real question is how do I make sure that I am a candidate for treatments that will work on only one type of diabetic or the other type.
