Have you ever wondered what the Hemoglobin A1c test measures?

Do you know the difference between Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR)?

Do you know what Charcot Foot is, and its relation to Diabetes?

I've added a new Category to Candid Diabetes, titled Diabetes101. Diabetes101 will consist of a weekly post that addresses the technical aspects of Diabetes, including in-depth explanations about the mechanisms of the disease, various possible complications, lab test, etc. It will be comprehensive information, things that your doctor may not explain to you. I will attempt to KISS as much as possible, but the posts will include medical jargon and mumbo-jumbo. I want to encourage anyone who needs further clarification about a term or explanation within these future posts to please comment or email me; remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question! Also, feel free to make recommendations for any informative posts that you'd like me to research and post in Diabetes101.

Please also bear in mind that, although I hold a degree in the healthcare field, I am Not a Physician or an Endocrinologist. I plan to have posts that reflect reliable and valid educational information and will provide reputable external links and images as I am able. However, the bulk of my information will, in most cases, be attained from my College Medical Texts and Dictionaries and not from the internet.

Aside from that, I've decided to incorporate these posts in an attempt to share and utilize my educational background ($20,000/yr worth). And simply because the physiological and pathological aspects of the body are pretty darn fascinating.

I am currently working on the first post in Diabetes101 and plan to unveil it on Wednesday. Stay tuned!
