When all of this started I went to my family physician who prescribed Celexa and referred me to a mental health doctor. The mental health doctor increased the Celexa and that worked for a small time period then the decision was to move to a stronger med so I switched over to Paxil. Paxil and my brain do not get along it turns out so I ended up in a nasty place which led to my first hospitalization. I was taken off of Paxil and moved to Effexor which was alright for the depression but was not doing nothing for the racing thoughts and psychotic behavior so they added Zyprexa to the mix and then later on Lithium to balance me out. Now the new problem was that Effexor was not doing enough plus all of the side effects of the other meds Wellbutrin was added to the mix. So I left the hospital on a drug cocktail that included Effexor, Wellbutrin, Lithium, Zyprexa and Temazapam (I could be wrong on this one all I know is it was one of a sleeping pill type).
This combination worked for quite some time but about six months in the weight gain from Zyprexa was getting to a dangerous level so I stopped taking it. For awhile i was alright but the racing thoughts were back so a variety of different antipsychotics were tried until eventually I just crashed and ended up back on the psch ward. The plan was to cleanse out my system and start a different type of antidepressant. So they stopped all of my meds except for the sleeping med in under a week. Normally it takes months to stop Effexor the proper way but I guess that I was under 24/7 monitoring it was alright. So I was on nothing but the sleeping pill for a couple of weeks except for the odd anti psychotic to help in difficult moments. I moved on to Nardil which is an MAOI antidepressant and through a bunch of experimentation Seroquel was found and it started to work.
Seroquel started as 25mg when needed but pretty soon it was given to me three times a day on a schedule. I left the hospital and over the next four months or so Seroquel was increased to 100mg three times daily and a extra 50mg when needed. I had to go for dental work and Nardil can not be combined with a number of meds including some used in dentistry so I stopped taking it. I was off antidepressants completely until I asked to be started on Effexor and it was slowly increased form 37.5 to 75 to 112.5 to the dose I am on now which is 150mg. Problem now is my body seems to have adjusted to it as it is not working very well. So chances are another med is going to be added to the mix. Anyway that is my drug history for the most part.
* Update - Seroquel is now at 100mg four times per day and 60mg of Cymbalta has been added .
