I'm going to wean off pristiq. I was told to crack the tablet in half by my doctor. I thought we weren't supposed to cut it

I was told to cut the pill, Pristiq, in half and take half tomorrow AM and then start Prozac 20mg tomorrow evening and discontinue Pristiq after that. I'm concerned over the short wean period,( this is my 4th week on 50mg) and concerned over cracking it in half. I read were not supposed todo that...
