Actually, my depression symptoms alleviated after taking thyroxine daily. However, having been on three different kinds of medication for the past decade continuously since 17 years old (I'm now 29), I am completely reliant on them. I don't suffer from bad moods anymore, and I no longer feel suicidal. However, the depression years were so horrible that I'm so scared the symptoms may come back if I taper off my daily 500 mg of Epilem, 60 mg of Prozac, and 150 mg of Effexor.
Do you think the depression was caused by my thyroid disease? If so, perhaps I would be able to function with the anti-depressants if my thyroid is normal again. Lately my doctor and I have agreed to taper the 60 mg Prozac off to 40. I was very surprised that such a small change actually have an affect on me at all. But after a few days of observation, I am a lot more sluggish and my thinking is getting more confused. I sleep more than 12 hours a day now...
