Blog for Mental Health 2013

Posted Mar 28 2013 10:14am
I know, it's already March, but I just came across a website which talks about a campaign to help eradicate mental health stigma,  A Canvas of the Minds . I'm taking the pledge to be a part of this important effort.
I pledge my commitment to the Blog For Mental Health 2013 Project.  I will blog about mental health topics not only for myself, but for others.  By displaying this badge, I show my pride, dedication, and acceptance for mental health.  I use this to promote mental health education in the struggle to erase stigma.
In case this is your first visit to my blog, I'd like to let you know that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type 1 about 15 years ago. Before that, my diagnosis was severe depression with extreme anxiety. As I've learned more about bipolar disorder, I can see in retrospect that I've had it most of my life. I've been through a variety of treatments including a pharmacopeia of medications, a multitude of hospitalizations, electroconvulsive therapy (a disaster), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and different holistic modalities. By far the most effective has been CBT, an MAOI antidepressant, and mindfulness.

My goal with this blog is to provide hope to others with mental illness, and to help alleviate the awful stigma that goes along with our diagnoses. I hope that by being a part of this project I can further my objective by reaching a wider audience.

Please join me along with the others participating in this campaign. Those blogs may be found at  Blog for Mental Health 2013 Blogroll .

I'd like to pledge the following five bloggers who have strived to help others and bring awareness with their mental health blogging (it was hard to pick just five, see my own blog list for others).
