Hi Allconfused,
I too have deep rooted depression and I believe this means that the depression is a response to something deep rooted inside you, for example part of my 'deep rooted depression' is in relation to childhood abuse that was never dealt with at the time and now as a 29 year old it is just one of the things of which the memories contribute towards my depression. I have tried just about every anti depressant there is and I seemed to be treatment resistant but after my bipolar diagnosis was made 2 years ago I have had a mood stabiliser and an anti-psychotic added in to my medication (both of which are shown to help deep rooted/major depressive episodes. I'm not sure how much difference they have made but I always find that even temporarily that it's the talking therapies which lift my mood for a little while. Do you have a counsellor or psychologist or could you get in contact with one? I think the combination of medication and talking is, in my opinion, the best treatment for depression. Take care and all the best :)

My doc just recently told me that my depression appears to be 'deep rooted'. My previous doc said I am borderline bipolar/manic depressive.... I have tried sssoooo many different meds over the past 3 years and none seem to be working for me. Currently my doc is weening me off Effexor so I can start Savella. I am also on Adderall (XR 20mg in morn and 10mg in afternoon). Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?? Also I heard depression can be genetic. I have an 8 yr old daughter and I do NOT want her to go through this -- any suggestions?? Anyone taken Savella with Adderall?? Sorry for all the questions.....
