Hi Dr. Ellie,
I just came across your blog, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to ask you a question. I just started wearing my permanent full upper denture. In your opinion, would it okay to use Colgate Total with Whitener to clean this appliance? (I use that on my remaining lower teeth.) It seems like most dental professionals advise against this, but I'd like to know whether or not you think there's a good possibility that the appliance could be damaged by this.
Thanks,
M. in Baltimore Hi M,
Thank you for your confidence in my opinion. I recommend a particular system of oral care - and I would recommend this system for your lower teeth. If you are not familiar with the system the details can be printed out in a booklet form from this link:
http://zellies.com/client_images/catalog19708/pages/files/NEWZelliesCompleteMout The system calls for three rinses and Crest Original toothpaste.
http://zellies.com/store.asp?pid=14406 I would not recommend any other toothpaste for you. I would suggest a liquid cleaner for your denture - but I think you should really ask you dentist who made the denture - materials vary.
Please consider the benefits of xylitol to moisten your mouth and keep the skin under the denture healthy - which is very important. Thanks again for your question - I hope my answer helps!
Best Wishes,
Ellie
