With summer quickly approaching, families begin to plan their summer vacations. Studies show that people often choose convenience over health when dining on vacation. This is a time about indulgence and breaking away from the everyday routines.
We have often discussed the importance of maintaining a healthy diet for your overall health and oral health. Below is a list of unhealthy foods to avoid from popular US cities.
New York City: Known as the Big Apple, NYC boasts the world’s best hot dogs. Avoid these fat laden treats and opt for newer food trucks offering lean turkey dogs or chicken sausage.
Chicago: The Windy City claims to have the ultimate pizza. If you are going to indulge in a slice, beware of the 20 grams of fat that come with each slice. (See’s candy chocolate truffles have 6 grams per piece.) To lighten the calorie intake, try a slice with no meat.
Philadelphia: This historic city claims ownership of the Philly cheesesteak. While it may appear to be a healthy choice for lunch, this delectable sandwich contains over 900 calories and 50 grams of fat! Make sure you bring your walking shoes after this meal!
Memphis: You won’t be a Memphis Belle very long if you indulge in too much of the treasured BBQ. The famous sauce contains 45 calories and 1 gram of fat in every 2 tablespoons! When looking for something lighter, eat charcoal-broiled chicken and spoon on the sauce sparingly.
New Orleans: The home of jazz is renowned for their beignets. People stand in line for hours to sample the Café du Monde’s world-famous beignets. These fat-filled fried pastry balls are perfect with a cup of chicory coffee, but not so perfect for your diet.
