Periodontal disease and Cardio Vascular Disease Interrelation

Posted Dec 10 2008 3:49pm
Meta analysis in research has been given the utmost importance be it evidence based medicine /dentistry. The recent meta analysis on periodontal disease and chronic heart disease(CHD) highlights the relationship between them. Periodontal disease with systemically elevated inflammatory markers has been strongly associated with CHD.
I really found the meta analysis published in the Colgate White Paper to be interesting. The emphasis been given on the bacterial exposure and the elevated systemic inflammation in course of periodontal disease ands its impact on CHD, its important that your regular patients be made aware of this relationship. May be prevention and control of periodontal disease is important and valuable component in prevention of periodontal disease.
