Listerine

Posted Jan 08 2011 12:24pm
Dear Dr. Ellie
Quick question -- so is Listerine pretty bad if used outside the realm/boundary of your system?

A

Hi A,

Listerine can be very corrosive for the teeth of anyone using it outside the realm/boundary of my system if they have acidic saliva ( since they have no way to buffer the acidity)
if they have a dry mouth ( since they have no liquids to buffer or wash the acidity off their teeth)
if they use it and then sleep with their mouth open - snoring etc - ( since they have a dry mouth)
if they have allergies, sinus or blocked nose ( since they have a dry mouth)
if they take medications that have a side effect of dry mouth

So......It should be no surprise that Listerine trials showed that this acidity is "no problem" by using candidates who were young healthy men with lots of alkaine saliva! ha!
