Eating food in the middle of the night can seriously damage your teeth, Danish experts have warned.

Researchers Prove Acupuncture’s Effectiveness in Pain Therapy (Raw Story/AFP)

Early Consumption of Soda Indicator of Unhealthy Diet (PhysOrg)

Young girls who drink soda have less healthy diets through adolescence than their peers who do not drink soda, according to a Penn State study.

The ten-year study showed that girls who drank soda at age five had diets that were less likely to meet nutritional standards for the duration of the study, which ended at age 15. Girls who did not drink soda at age five did not meet certain nutritional requirements, but their diets were healthier.

The difference between the two groups in nutrient intake is “not just because of what they are consuming, but because of what they are not consuming,” said Laura Fiorito, postdoctoral fellow in Penn State’s Center for Child Obesity Research… More

“There’s no magic diet,” Dr Felice Jacka said, but added eating a diet mainly of vegetables, fruit, whole grain foods, low fat dairy products, and lean meat, and reserving processed and sweet treats to “sometimes foods,” will aid physical health and may also support mental well-being”… More

Spending Time in Nature Makes People Feel More Alive, Study Shows (PhysOrg)

Being outside in nature makes people feel more alive, finds a series of studies published in the June 2010 issue of the Journal of Environmental Psychology. And that sense of increased vitality exists above and beyond the energizing effects of physical activity and social interaction that are often associated with our forays into the natural world, the studies show.

“Nature is fuel for the soul, ” says Richard Ryan, lead author and a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. “Often when we feel depleted we reach for a cup of coffee, but research suggests a better way to get energized is to connect with nature,” he says… More
