My daughter is 14 and she started orthodontics when she was 9. She has worn the Herbst Appliance for approx. 2 years and she is in braces now. Her upper front teeth are very small and there is a lot of spacing between them. Her dentist recently brought to my attention that her upper jaw is wider than her lower jaw so her teeth do not meet on one side. Can orthodontics correct this? Also, she has springs on her upper wire. What is the purpose of this? I never presented these questions to her orthodontist because I never thought I had to. Now that the dentist has shown me this I am very upset and I am wondering if I should get a second opinion as far as her treatment is concerned.
