how do i stop the pain of these sores on my tongue its unbearable

they are small red sores i believe canker sores on my tongue but they are very irritated and excrutiatingly painful i am not going to be able to go to sleep with the pain as bad as it is it there anything i can do to at least dim the pain at all! please help me
