Yes - she should see a doctor/dentist immediatly - a fairly common infection with fever/swolen gums that affects normaly healthy but streesed out college age kids could be something called ANUG - (acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis) - this is not a diagnosis over the internet - but I have many patients with similar symoptoms that have been diagnosed with ANUG - at a mininum suggest to her to buy an antiseptic rinse (listerine) get to a DR to rule out serious infection and recieve antibiotic therapy....often a fever signifies something serious..so she should get care soon...Hope this helps and hope she feels better.

My 19 yr daughter has had a fever for three days and now her gums are very swollen and purple. Does that sound like infection she should see a doctor for? She is away from home in Ireland.
