I would check the ingredients in your oral care products. Colgate Total contains triclosan (as an active ingredient )and triclosan reacts with chlorine in tap water to form chloroform - which may irritate his skin.
Creat Pro Health products are often linked to oral sores and mouth sensitive reactions.
I would suggest you use a clean toothbrush and a simple toothpaste like Crest Original - with no added tartar control ( very abrasive ) or whitening ( very acidic) or sparkles etc.
If you are trying to get rid of gum disease:
1) Make sure to keep your toothbrushes away from the toilet area of your bathroom -
2) Clean your toothbrush every day in a little Listerine liquid. Rinse out and store so each brush can air dry. Molds and bacteria grow on toothbrushes - and they can transfer from one brush to another.
3) You may want to use Closys mouth rinse before you brush your teeth. Closys gets to work on gum disease quickly.
4) Eat 6 grams of xylitol each day - especially after meals to eradicate plaque bacteria and help heal the gums.
Good luck - I would expect you to have any gum problem under control in less than a month.
