Dance With Your Healing~Tears let me begin to speak

Posted Jul 26 2010 6:05pm

Hello Kindred Wellsphere Members,

I am poet and expressive writing facilitator, Margot Van Sluytman. I have published several books of poetry and share on-line and in-person workshops and talks on using poetry as healing voice. The title in the Subject line above is a work for which I received an Award from The National Association for Poetry Therapy, and an invitation to do a workshop in Portland, Oregon, in 2007; and it was as well, the catalyst that lead to the man who murdered my Father, to contact me, directly upon my return from the US. Since that time, I have written several works, including The Other Inmate: Mediating Justice-Mediating Hope. Poetry and Workbook for Restorative Practices, as well as Sawbonna: I See You. A Real Life Restorative Justice Story.

I have met the man who murdered my Father. We have shared hope and healing. And my work with expressive writing sees me share with victims (survivors) and inmates (survivors) in both Canada and the US. This is poignant and deeply satisfying work. Vocation. I have shared in homeless shelters, womens shelters, at universities, colleges, high schools, healing and spirituality centres as well.

Most recently I did a talk for The Elizabeth Fry Society on Parliament Hill in our captial, Ottawa, Canada; then for The Church Council on Justice and Corrections, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and just prior I shared the stage in a two-day talk with Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking in Wichita, Kansas.

I invite you to visit my two web sites, and to contact me to share your thoughts on both restorative and transformative justice and expressive writing.

I wish to thank by friend, Louise Gallagher for her vision and her invitation to this community.

Sawbonna,

Margot Van Sluytman/RavenSpeaks
