It was only a few years ago when folks would approach me after my performances to ask whether tap was a dying art form and what happened to it. Those were also the days when almost every tap dancer would preface what they were doing by saying something about “bringing tap back.”
You don’t hear that as much these days and I suspect its because tap dancers are just too busy working to think about bringing tap back- they are just bringing it!
Recently I reached out to many of the biggest names in tap to collect their responses to a question for a soon-to-be-published blog post. At most I thought this would take just a few days to complete…it’s been 3 weeks and I’m still waiting for responses. It’s not that they don’t care, in fact many of them have responded to say that they will be getting back to me soon.
Instead it reflects just how busy they really are!
So on this week of Thanksgiving, I’d like to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of the dancers who work so hard to “bring tap” to their respective communities & on the world stage.
You know who you are…
All of the announcements, classes, workshops, jams, and performances in my Facebook stream testify to your success.
Tap is back everyone…unfortunately, that also means that many of us tap dancers are going to be too busy to notice for quite some time!
