Who says you have to do interminable sit-ups to have great abs? Take the ladies who partake of the fine art of belly dance. Their mythically sexy moves are now all over gyms and dance studios, and shimmying your flesh has never been sexier. Known as raq sharqi (dance of the East) in Arabic, belly dance was traditionally a folk dance that commemorated births and weddings. The naturally festive feel lends itself to the life-affirming moves: isometric swivels of the ribs, shoulders, hips, arms, and abdomen. Aside from making you feel sexy, belly dance is great for toning muscles and giving you newfound endurance and strength.
