Tonight, I walked in to the theatre having no idea what to expect. I have seen this company many times before and every time, my experience with them has been different. I've seen many dancers come and go, and along with the dancers, various stylistic and choreographic elements and quirks change and evolve.
After reading the program, I expected dances filled with floor writhing, psychotic break downs, minimalist costumes, and movement that did nothing to convey the story explained in the program.
I was oh so wrong.
This show was fantastic. Featuring all live music, it displayed a variety of styles to match the eclectic mix of music the pieces were set to. The show flowed smoothly from an emotional piece about the dancers' own personal journey's set to instrumental Led Zeppelin to a delightful trio accompanied by a local children's choir.
Since the last time I saw them perform, these dancers have gotten stronger, and now move more like a company, having easily overcome their former appearance as a group of dancers with as diverse of backgrounds as these dancers have. The edges have started to blur, so to speak.
I was most impressed with the whole show and the fact that this company has continued to be one of the best in the area, even with so much change within their group and in the community in the time that they have existed. Tonight was awesome, and I can't wait to see what they have in store next!
Stay on your toes,
Selly
