Richie eyes sustained success through Impulse

Posted Aug 27 2012 3:20am
Big apple—You recognize her from the Cheap Oakley sunglasses she always has with her. You know her from TV, and also you might know her from your tabloids, too, but Nicole Richie isn't convinced any one of it functions for or against her on the subject of building her design career.

She guided aspiring designers for the fashion competition show "Fashion Star," and says she sees success inside fashion industry as either potentially intense and fleeting, or broad-based and sustained. It's nearly the project you do -- and doing it consistently, she says.

"You're only as effective as your last season," she says.

Richie, it seems like, is banking with a big fall season. Then her limited-edition collection for Macy's contemporary department debuts, and she also stars within the ads.

Richie, 30, isn't a business novice. She's gained recognition to be with her lines Winter Kate and House of Harlow, nevertheless the Nicole Richie for Impulse collaboration, best identified as contemporary clothes styled with Richie's bohemian flair, is her greatest exposure yet. The garments, including maxi dresses, asymmetrical skirts, cropped tops and fitted jackets in many of jewel tones and prints, come in 100 stores and available online starting Sept. 12.

She hasn't taken the task lightly.

"Well, my main focus just with anything that I design is usually to really familiarize yourself with the buyer, and I spend time doing that," she says. "I'm traveling all seasons simply with various appearances which i do for Winter Kate and House of Harlow, along with the reason why I do these appearances is really because I must say i arrive at come face-to-face with my customer, so when I'm watching them inside store I can see what pieces they're wearing, I can tell what they're fascinated by, what people's favorite pieces are and the wonderful will always be planning to tell me an account of that they got that ring or that bracelet, or where did they wear their tops or their Cheap Oakley. That's something I look closely at and i also really take into account whenever I'm designing your next collection."

However, she doesn't do the hard sell. She likes to see women make their look their own instead of doling out advice or drawing attention to how she's worn a particular style before. "It's such an honor any moment I'm driving down the street or I'm at high school and that i call at your everyday woman just wearing a chunk from my collection, that's something that's so special," she says. "You recognize it's something it really touches me in a way that little else has before since they recently they bought that piece and I'm extremely grateful. Quietly grateful."

Meeting Richie, one contains the feeling that although she was raised the main attraction because the daughter of Lionel Richie and co-starred with Paris Hilton from the reality show "The easy Life," she doesn't mind working behind the scenes. Her celebrity and family connections have opened some doors, but Richie says sherrrd like to work for the glory.Continued ....

"It is advisable to continually be students on some level," she says. "It is critical to always maintain your ear down and constantly be surrounding yourself with individuals that inspire you and the ones which have a great work ethic i do not think you should ever hit the place where you believe you'll find nothing left to master."

Getting glammed up is a component of her job, but Richie, that has two small children, Harlow and Sparrow, says she's not necessarily picture-perfect. She carries the fundamental round Oakley sunglasses   she's famous for as well as bobby pins wherever she goes for an instant transformation. (Richie says she's a guru at the quick hair braid.)

"You'll find sometimes that we do look a hot mess and that i guess I probably should work with making myself a tad bit more build all the time. It's a be employed in progress."

Not on today. Her hair is-right wavy, and she's wearing a peacock feather-print dress on the Impulse line. "I would say that jewel tones and intricate prints would be the main focus with this collection but Furthermore caused faux-leathers and lace," she says.

Her fall shopping list includes leather pants. Yes, she says, more women than you may think can pull off leather pants.

Needless to say, they'll need boots, she says.

She'll also replenish her pullover sweaters, including the colorblocked one from her collection. "I like a great pullover but I do think that all girl really wants to be able to place on a pullover but not look so sloppy. This pullover, is in fact pretty cropped nevertheless very structured but extremely comfortable as well and i also worked lots with colorblocking in order to give it a small amount of a punch."

In addition , it looks nice with leather pants, she says which has a smile.

She won't build her wardrobe around trends, because there might not enough room on her favorite things, Richie says.

"I never get rid of something because it's old. I wear things with holes included like every time. But I really do like to eliminate things to sort of keep my closet fresh. But many of that time period I'm donating. I'm not just throwing clothes away. But I'm a Virgo; I'm pretty organized well , i prefer to keep my closet pretty clean."
