Doctor appointment

Posted by Aimee L.

I have a doctor appointment in the morning with my Primary Care Manager. I am going so he can give me a referall to the CF doctor in San Diego. I just hope Tricare (my insurnace) approves the referall without trying to send me elsewhere. Which is usually what happens.

I need to get into a CF doctor quickly. I can tell my lungs are congested, I am always tired and my joints are hurting pretty badly. Joint pain is always a sign of infection with me, so I just know that thier is a lung infection brewing in there!

So cross your fingers for me!

Hi Aimee,

Just a suggestion for when you go see your doctor. Ask him/her for a Vitamin D level. People with low Vitamin D levels (Vitamin D deficiency) are more prone to getting Respiratory Tract Infections and people with CF seem to have EXTRAORDINARILY high needs for Vitamin D (as shown by the amount of Vitamin D that it takes to bring their Vitamin D levels into the normal range).

While western medicine doesn't seem to have connected the dots, it seems to me that CF patients could potentially reduce their susceptibility to respiratory infections by keeping their Vitamin D levels within the normal range.

Joint pain is ALSO a sign of Vitamin D deficiency, so there is another possible connection between the two.

Thanks Aimee, I have the same symptoms as you. Only my joint pain is so bad I wake up screaming in the middle of the night when I try to turn over in bed. The joint pain is that bad. And I have a high pain tolerance. I am taking "D" 1,000 IU per day, I am going to bump it up to 2,000 IU per day and see if I get any relief... Kerri what is a "normal high amount" for a CF patient to be on ? I don't want to over do it...
