Thankful Things Thursday: On MVB, Ally’s Law, and Reminiscing

Posted Sep 15 2011 7:00am

Thursday again. Party! Let’s get right to it. It’s Thankful Things Thursday, the day on which I tell you what’s making me feel super rad and thankful this week. As always, I’m forever grateful to Ali at Ali on the Run for being the inspiration behind this weekly burst of happiness.

I’m thankful for everyone who entered the Active Bands Giveaway and helped me raise awareness for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.  Congratulations to Marisa at The Pace of My Life , who won the free Active Band! If you were hoping to win a headband and didn’t, remember: a $10 donation to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America will get you an Active Band and a “Running Takes Guts” wristband. I still have 15 left to sell! (I have screenshots of the whole random.org business, but my computer hates me right now and won’t let me show you. So trust me. It was random and Marisa won. The end.)

Active Bands is the bomb-dizzle.

I’m thankful for the Editor’s Choice Award in this year’s CBS Chicago Most Valuable Bloggers . See that snazzy little blue ribbon on the right? Yep. I won! In each category there was a “People’s Choice” and an “Editor’s Choice” award. Winning Editor’s Choice essentially means I didn’t get the most votes, but the judges loved my content. I am pretty proud that they think I’m writing something worth reading. Thanks to all of you for voting, too!

I’m thankful for my friend Ally Bain. Have you seen her in Glamour yet? Ally is in incredible company on the list of  Top 10 College Women . She’s being recognized for her work as an activist for people with Crohn’s & colitis. What I think makes Ally incredible is that she doesn’t seem to think what she’s doing is that impressive. She knows it’s important, but she assumes anyone else in her situation would have done the same thing. Wrong, Ally. You’re just that awesome. Be sure to check out Ally’s Glamour article as well as her posts here about living with Crohn’s and the Restroom Access Act, or Ally’s Law .

This is Ally. And me. And Charlotte. We're all rad, but Ally is the raddest. (My spell check says raddest isn't a word. I guess I just invented a word.)

I’m thankful that my chiropractor’s office is near the place where Goose and I had our wedding reception.  I have to drive past it weekly when I head in for my adjustments, and it always makes me feel all warm and happy. The day Goose and I got married was such a wonderful, happy day. Driving past the place where the party went down brings all those happy memories back. (True story: at our wedding, we had to kick everyone off the dance floor so dessert could be served. Our guests started dancing before the meal was even finished and it was awesome.)

I’m thankful for the kind of perspective that comes from the blog community . I’m still oh-so-loving Chelsey’s “Why Not Me?” post. If you haven’t read it yet, go do it now. You won’t be sorry.

I’m thankful that Waking Up Full of Awesome went viral. Melissa Wardy over at Pigtail Pals is one kick-butt woman who is a tireless advocate for girls. She isn’t afraid to challenge, question, and analyze. She speaks her mind. She owns a clothing company for girls and writes an amazing blog to boot. Her blog can go from a kind, empowering note to a little girl who got made fun of for wearing “boy” shoes to taking a major retailer to task . That’s why I love it. But Waking Up Full of Awesome might be my favorite post ever. Just read it.

I’m thankful for fresh fruit. I’m digging the apples we picked at the orchard over the weekend , fresh peaches, and watermelon. Hello, fall fruit. Summer fruit, please don’t leave me.

I’m thankful for seasons and seasons of Dawson’s Creek. Oh the happiness of silly teenage angst. And, of course, Pacey & Joey. Sigh.

Now you. Tell me what you’re thankful for.
