Friday Night at the Drive In & Saturday at the Racetrack

Posted Sep 03 2011 9:48pm

It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend in this house. We started out with very little planned for Labor Day weekend and then kept adding things, little by little.  Before we knew it, Goose and I had a jam-packed holiday weekend.

We kicked off the weekend by hitting a local drive in movie theater to see Back to the Future and Top Gun.  To say we were excited is an understatement. I grew up with a love of airplanes and aviation. Even before it was appropriate for my brother and I to watch all of Top Gun (hello, weird neck-licking “romantic” scene), my parents would fast-forward through those parts and let us watch all the airplane action.  If I know my parents, they probably talked loudly over all the cursing too. They were good like that.

Goose spent his high school days watching the movie with his buddies. They even assigned themselves characters in the movie. Any guesses who his character was? Yep, you got it. That’s where his nickname comes from.

We showed up at the movies armed with snacks, drinks, and good friends. We went expecting a good time and we were not disappointed. The drive in is absolutely adorable and looks just like the ones I’ve seen in movies.

Hey, super rad cell phone photo.

We even had a little speaker to put in the car window!  We backed into the space and sat outside in bag chairs to enjoy the nice evening.  Back to the Future was first, and I really enjoyed it. (Can you believe I’ve never seen it before?)

Just before intermission, I looked at BFF and said, “My life will be complete if they have the little commercials at intermission like in Grease.” Well guess what? My life is apparently complete!

It's hard to see, but this is the hot dog jumping into a bun.

We may or may not have celebrated this by singing “Sandy” pretty loudly.

You’re welcome for that.

After a late night at the drive in, I overslept and missed my training with Team Challenge this morning. Oops! Looks like I have 4 miles to get in tomorrow.

I spent the day at the racetrack with my grandparents, parents, and some of my extended family. My grandpa read all of the names of the horses to my grandma from the newspaper this morning, so she came with a list, all ready to go. I hung out with her all day and helped her place her bets.  We had a blast, and Grandma went home a winner!

My beautiful grandma and me!

Oh yes I did rock the braided bang at the racetrack.

So many winning tickets! None of them are mine. All of them are Grandma's.

And now, my exciting Saturday night looks like this…

How is the start of your holiday weekend going? Tell me about all of the fun, lazy, happy things you are doing!
