When bronchial tubes become inflamed does that guarantee there will be permanent scarring of the bronchial airways

I was in a room that had been sprayed with bleach.  I have been secreting mucous at back of throat and have a tight chest every since the exposure.  Since I have COPD my fear is doing more permanent damage to my airways.  The poison control center lists Bleach as an irritant.  But I was under the impression that inflamed airways usually leave behind scarring as they are healing
