US BioHeart forms cardiac stem cell Center of Excellence featuring Hospital Angeles Tijuana, Just Minutes From San Diego

Bioheart, Inc., has begun establishing five Centers of Excellence in Latin America to provide its autologous adult stem cell (A-ASC) therapy procedures to patients suffering from congestive heart failure (CHF) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
The first Center of Excellence is in North America, at Hospital Angeles Tijuana, one of 22 state-of-the-art facilities that make up the largest private hospital network in Mexico (Grupo Angeles). The Hospital Angeles Tijuana medical complex is located just south of downtown San Diego.

Making cell therapies available globally to patients suffering fromcardiovascular disease is a great advancement for medicine, and inline with the rapidly growing practice of medical travel for surgical and medical treatments of all types. Deloitte's Center for Health Solutions released its report on the trend, Consumers In Search of Value estimates that medical tourism by US patients to foreign hospitals is growing 100% year over year, with 750,000 Americans seeking medical care abroad in 2007, and projected to increase to six million by 2010.
Much of that growth will be fueled by innovations such as stem cell therapies, as well as the fact that many companies are beginning to include such internatoinal options in employee health insurance programs, e.g. Blue Cross Blue Shield of California's Companion Global Health Care.
