She was hospitalized for the first time on December 9 with COPD exacurbation. Stayed 7 days. Went home for approx 2 weeks and returned to the hospital on Dec 29 or 30. Again she stayed approximately a week--told she had bacterial infection (found out later pseudomonas). A week after discharge she was again admitted to the hospital--this time she gets to go home with the pseudomonas and MRSA and an IV in her hand for 6 days. She is home, but doing very poorly. She gave a sputum culture and swab culture for MRSA last week. Today we find out that she is positive for colonization of MRSA and is growing Stenotrophomonas in her sputum. The dr has elected not to treat with antibiotics. My question is will this type of thing grow dormant and not possibly affect her or does it just get worse and worse?
Thanks for any insight on these horrible bacteria!
